The Role

We are currently looking for a part time Animal Care & Cattery Assistant to join our friendly nursing team at our practice in Wrexham, North Wales.

This is a part time role working full days on Wednesday, Thursdays and Saturday and Sunday mornings. The role consists of working in a busy Veterinary Practice within a large team comprised of Registered Veterinary Nurses, Veterinary Surgeons, Student Veterinary Nurses and Animal Nursing Assistants. We are an RVN Training practice with two clinical coaches on site.

About Us

We are a busy, fast paced practice and possess with a range of equipment, that you will be provided training on. The equipment is made up of imagining, laboratory and digital machines. We are a host practice for Vets Now and also a Tier 2 RCVS practice, which requires us to possess certain levels of equipment and provide 24-hour care to our patients. We are also required to be inspected regularly to ensure we maintain a high standard of care to our patients and clients, which is something we pride ourselves on and have done so for many years. It permits us to train new members of staff to which we fully invest our time and passion in doing so.

Where are we located?

We have a relatively central location which permits easy access to lots of outdoor rural activities, which staff members make full use of in social gathering and events to help maintain a team work ethic. We have Wrexham train station on our door step that allows further travelling should you desire to explore further.

Applicant Requirements

Our ideal candidate will be confident, resourceful, proactive with strong communication skills. They must have the ability to work independently and be a team player. We are looking for an individual who is keen to learn and adopts a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Inpatient care including nutrition, hygiene and medicating
  • Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in all areas
  • Assisting Nurses, Vets and receptionists
  • General house keeping
  • Stocking of consumables
  • Supporting the Principals with new initiatives as required
  • Adhering to all standard operating procedures
  • Communicating with both staff and clients effectively while maintaining a high professional standard of customer service and care
  • Fulfilling the obligations of the rota, sick cover/ bank holiday cover
  • Carrying out any reasonable requests made by the Principals, Associate Vets or other members of the management team.

Health & Safety - Ensure all polices are adhered to, report any apparent Health & Safety Issues to appropriate member of staff. You will be provided and asked to complete relevant Health & Safety training.

Cattery requirements

  • Provide care for patients, while maintaining health, welfare and hygiene throughout their stay
  • Carry out admission and discharge procedures for boarding cats, by liaising with the public
  •  Provide nutrition and mediation if required to boarding cats as required
  • Complete booking forms and necessary paper work – requiring IT skills to which training will be provided
